COMPANY HISTORY

More than 30 years of continuity

  • 1989

Before founding the consulting company LAWCONSULT, the founder of the company together with Dipl. Volksw. Fritz Neske (editor-in-chief) designed the COMPUTERREPORT of the NJW, which was newly founded in 1988. In a series of tests, the results for the various functional areas are examined and evaluated on the basis of a 1,000-point catalog and published in 15 product tests.

Law firms are advised by the individual company "Lawconsult". The focus of the consulting is on the structural and procedural organization, including the new possibilities of information technology.

  • 1992

After his legal state examination and legal clerkship in Munich, the company founder leaves the editorial office of NJW-CoR and, after a change of legal form and registration of the new Lawconsult Informationssysteme GmbH in the Munich Commercial Register, leads the company into software development himself. With about half a dozen developers, Syndikus is designed and programmed.

  • 1993

Presentation of Syndikus version 1.0 for law firms at the DAT-Fachausstellung (a trade fair at the Deutscher Anwaltstag) in Stuttgart.

  • 1994

Delivery of the completely self-developed accounting for law firms as a new module. Law firms are able to book in-house without a tax consultant.

  • 1995

Kick-off of the legal department version. The then Mercedes-Benz AG (today Daimler AG) chooses Syndikus as the system for its legal department at the group headquarters in Stuttgart. Lawconsult has already equipped a three-digit number of law firms with Syndikus.

  • 1996 to 2001

Continuous further development of the two product lines for law firms and for legal departments. Further dissemination of the system in the market.

  • 2002

First steps to converting to a new developer platform.

  • 2003

Complete redesign of the software with focus on object orientation, multi-TIER architecture and connection to common SQL servers.

  • 2004

    Syndikus 4.0 "Platinum" is delivered.

The connection to MS-Outlook and Lotus Notes is created.

  • 2005

A contract creation module with a collection of clauses, contract analysis and sample contract templates supplements contract management.

At the same time, the launch of the "Risk Management" module gives legal departments the option of providing reports to the Board of Management/General Manager on contract-immanent risks at any time. Companies decide to manage their risk management completely with Syndikus.

  • 2006

Market launch of the DOCUVISTO document management system with innovative functions. Lawconsult redefines the term DMS.

  • 2007

Launch of LEGALCRYPT, the system for encrypting confidential documents.

Launch of INTELLEGIS, an intelligent knowledge management solution.

Launch of the multilingual version 5.0 of Syndikus for the international market.

  • 2008

Numerous other legal departments choose products from LAWCONSULT.

A new module for product management creates the possibility to link processes concerning product defects, product liability, recalls and much more directly to the product database.

A new module for real estate management allows customers to cover their asset management as well. Construction projects can be linked to complete property data, including land registry data and extracts. Properties can also be linked to each other.

With One Click Billing®, large law firms have the option of billing for all services over a month with a single click, and this can also be done in several languages, depending on the client's wishes.

  • 2009

At the turn of the year 2008/2009 the LAWCONSULT developer team starts with three new experienced programmers. 2009 is also a year of strategic reorientation.

A new module on transactions allows legal departments and large law firms to historize and research the formation, purchase and sale and expiration of companies or company shares. Group management becomes much more transparent thanks to this M&A functionality.

DOCUVISTO appears in version 2.0 (currently 4.0.14) and has been completely revised.

  • 2010

Right at the beginning of 2010 LAWCONSULT delivers a completely revised and extended brand management module.

Reassuring for our customers: Syndikus becomes test winner in a comparative test of law firm systems right at the beginning of the year. This strengthens trust and secures investments. We are proud of what we have achieved and are now working with even more momentum.

At the end of the year, one installation of Syndikus follows the other. DOCUVISTO undergoes multiple updates in December, and the challenges of moving to twice the size while support and operations continue have been mastered.

  • 2011

In 2011, quite significant further developments were made in the area of trademark management. It can be said that the Syndikus trademark module alone outshines many a specialized software for trademark management. In the process, suggestions from the practice were also received to a large extent, so that it is ensured that this module is oriented towards the needs of everyday trademark management.

In addition to the functions that have long been available to assign sub-files to leading files and to place projects via files, a helpful extension was created to organize files in a file pool. This makes it possible to keep track of "parallel" processes, even if they are being handled by different people.

Due to the insolvency of a competitor, numerous law firms, which work a lot or even exclusively with time recording and accounting, have been looking for a new solution. Syndikus prevailed in a selection process carried out by objective consultants and has extended its lead over other providers through intensive further development on these topics. The program area of time recording and accounting is probably one of the best available for medium and large law firms. This includes, in particular, the fully automated accounting of all services across all files from specific time periods and the extraordinarily well thought-out evaluation mechanics.

  • 2012

In 2012, Syndikus gained a new addition: patent management. With this, legal departments are able to manage another area of IP rights administration within a single software package.

For users working with Syndikus on Apple, the connection to Microsoft Office 2011, i.e. Word 2011 for Mac in particular, has been completed. Of course, the ability to run under OS X 10.7 Lion has also been added.

A fully automatic function to consolidate duplicate people makes it easier to merge addresses, contacts, documents, etc., sometimes scattered among a handful of companies, into a single company.

The rocket to the end of the year in 2012 is our new Outlook connection, which makes it possible to assign e-mails to files in Syndikus via drag & drop. It really doesn't get any easier than that!

  • 2013

We would like to thank all our customers and, of course, especially the numerous new users who joined us this year for their trust. We have had a lot of pleasure with the development of the ship administration, which we have developed for several large shipping companies as a supplement to the basic system "Syndikus - Software for Legal Departments".

The Outlook connection has been further developed and Syndikus has undergone numerous updates.

  • 2014

The file pool is introduced. Now not only hierarchical links can be formed but also on one level. The new replace updates allow us to react even faster and more customer-specific.

Contracts can now be created from files with a single click and vice versa. Extensive further developments have been made in mark management.

  • 2015

DOCUVISTO version 3.1 is available and can now index emails and their attachments. A new version of Outlook Add In 2.7.3.0 is available. A new smart feature for change tracking in your own files is coming.

  • 2016

It is now possible to merge databases from different Syndikus installations fully automatically. This is always necessary when companies merge and both legal departments were already using Syndikus.

  • 2017

Switch to the database runtimes of version 8. Behind this is extensive conversion work throughout the code. Unicode is supported. At the same time a serious extension of the rights concept is made. Syndikus can now authorize users globally. The colleagues in Singapore access in the English interface, those of S.p.A. in Madrid in Spanish. Everyone sees only what they are allowed to see, but everyone is actually working on the same process.

Something is also happening in the book market: A management handbook for corporate lawyers is launched on the market as the "Beck'sches Formularbuch für die Rechtsabteilung". Kai M. Birkigt contributes section F. It deals with "Information and Communication Technology" in the legal department.

  • 2018

In key areas, performance was dramatically optimized through rewritten code. Product management was completely revised  (assignment of products to files for product liability cases, recalls, etc.).

  • 2019

Changes in the entire presentation away from 3D to flat design. Docuvisto 4.1 is released. Extensive enhancements for legal departments of banks are introduced, including fund management. A complete policy management is now added to the insurance and claims module.

  • 2020

Syndikus gets a document classification system that automates the cleanup of the document repository by automatically destroying documents that initially have to be kept for different lengths of time, thus ensuring that the document management system is always tidy and complies with the GDPR.

The corporate graphic is now no longer a banal bitmap graphic that can only be printed "as is" but is output as a vector graphic that can be placed in any graphics programs. So you can print it scaled in any size. Up to DIN A0 (!) - and theoretically even larger.

With the report generator, an extraordinarily powerful, optional tool is now available, which one can use for individual reports across the dataset. The intelligence behind it offers the great option to generate the reports dynamically across multiple tables (!), to save the search criteria as templates and even to pass the results directly to Excel.

Finally, the guided workflow for file creation accommodates beginners in Syndikus but also the use of assistants during the introductory period who are supposed to create files "straight forward".

  • 2021

Our presentations, which have been conducted online for several years, were expanded to include training last year with the Corona pandemic.

With several licensed online systems from different providers, we not only provide screen-to-screen support but now also introductions and extension training via the Internet. The consistent changeover to locally distributed work and virtual, internal meetings have proven their worth, as has the work of employees in home offices.

Update 369 will be delivered to customers as early as the first quarter, including a completely reprogrammed connection to Microsoft Word.

  • 2022

Update 370 comes with new text modules that can be inserted not only into Word documents but also into e-mail drafts. In addition to the Syndikus-PageFlip, which can browse animatedly through documents, FileFlip has been given new functions.

FileFlip browses through the entire file, just like the good old manual file. A cover sheet shows the key data of the case - and even better: you can insert writable dividers that subdivide the file (like tabs used to). The entire document is now also paginated.

  • 2023

Further development continues strongly in 2023.

For example, the integration of the automatic search for court jurisdictions (with update service!), which replaces the old court addresses, is being implemented. Work on AI modules is in full swing and the second generation of the family is being employed.

Enthusiastic new customers inspire the outlook.
